Spencer Ng '15

Spencer Ng, '15 strives to assist people through her love of science. Ng, a Widener biochemistry major from Haddonfield, New Jersey, aspires to become a primary care physician treating low-income and underserved populations.

“Widener has given me an appreciation of the bigger world,” said Ng, who has volunteered as a Friendly Visitor at nearby Crozer Hospital developing camaraderie with patients. “I’ve already learned that I want to give as much as I can to have a positive impact on the lives of people in communities like Chester.”

She now devotes her time to Northern Star Sports, a project utilizes sports as a means for teaching elementary-aged children about leadership, perseverance, and teamwork. Ng also participates in the Widener Medical Scholars program.

Ng's family inspired her career goals and civic engagement. “Having two parents in the medical field has given me direction on how to reach my goal,” Ng said. “My parents tried to impress the idea upon my sister and me that it’s important to give back to the community, and that it’s important to realize that we are all part of a greater community.”

Widener’s programs to aid the city of Chester appeal to Ng. “I’m inspired by the hope that citizens of Chester will have access to the primary and preventative care that’s necessary in sustaining a healthy lifestyle.”
