On their way

Graduates received their diplomas at the 2014 commencement ceremonies at Widener University.

Undergraduates received bachelor’s or associate’s degrees at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. For the first time, a separate commencement ceremony for graduate students was held for those receiving master’s or doctoral degrees, at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 16. Separate commencement ceremonies are held for Law School graduates at Widener’s campuses in Wilmington, Del., and Harrisburg, Pa.

In the graduate ceremony, more than 500 students received their diplomas, and nearly 700 students received diplomas in Saturday’s undergraduate ceremony.

A number of traditional graduation events were planned for the weekend. ROTC Commissioning was Thursday, May 15. Also on Thursday was the Graduate Student Awards ceremony. The Nightingale Ceremony for School of Nursing graduates was Friday, May 16. Also on Friday were the Graduate Reception and the Undergraduate Academic Awards. The traditional location of Memorial Field behind Old Main is the site for commencement ceremonies. The graduate ceremony was held at the Field House at Schwartz Athletic Center this year because of rain.

To capture the excitement and fun of the season, Widener has invited members of the university community to celebrate online through social media. The hashtag #widener2014 is being used to tag commencement-related content on Twitter and Facebook throughout the month of May. Widener has created graphics that are available for graduates, parents, and members of the university community to use on social media to show their Widener Pride. As part of this social media effort, Widener’s graduating students participated in a video project in which they shared their favorite Widener memories. Fourteen of these Widener Moments videos have been shared on the university’s YouTube channel. All 14 can be found here
