Widener University is the first institution in the Philadelphia region to participate in the Clinton Global Initiative University Network. Since its inaugural meeting in 2008, CGIU has brought together more than 4,500 students from more than 130 countries. CGIU is Clinton's initiative to engage the next generation of leaders. The program is a project of the larger Clinton Global Initiative, founded in 2005 with the mission to “turn ideas into action.”
Each year select students attend the annual CGI U meeting. This past spring, the Widener chapter of Engineers Without Borders presented a poster at the conference. Widener provides a minimum to $10,000 from an endowed fund to be divided among the students selected to pursue their projects.
Five projects have been chosen for the 2013-14 year ranging from a content analysis of female faculty members in higher education to the effects of pesticides usage on aquatic ecosystems.
