Criminal Justice

The Master of Arts program in criminal justice at Widener University is designed to prepare individuals for successful careers in teaching, research, management, and leadership in the criminal justice professions. Building upon the foundation of the bachelor's program, the master's degree curriculum provides intensive study in the areas of criminological theory, research methodology and data analysis, criminal law, organizational functioning, and planning/program development.

By incorporating an inter-disciplinary social science approach to graduate study, this program provides two important benefits for the student. First it encourages the development of an interrelated view of the criminal justice system; one which facilitates a thorough and comprehensive focus on the efforts of crime prevention, law enforcement, adjudication and punishment. Secondly, the program is designed to equip professionals with the analytical and problem-solving skills needed to propose meaningful solutions to the criminal and legal issues of today.

Courses are offered in the fall, spring, and summer semesters, and are run in the evenings to provide easy access for both working professionals and traditional students. Also, class sizes are kept small in line with Widener's commitment to the "personal" approach to higher education.
