Fine Arts


Widener University fine arts students don’t simply read and participate in classroom discussions—they create, perform and produce.

Students are immersed in a foundation of fine arts courses focusing on art history, music history, and drama, but also can choose an area of specialization such as studio art, dance, music, theater, or arts management.

Why study fine arts at Widener?

• Theater students have two on-campus organizations, Theatre Widener and Freshbaked Theatre Company, to transport ideas onto the stage.

• Music students can perform in instrumental ensembles, a chamber music program, and two choral music groups.

• Dance students collaborate on original compositions in our dance program.

• If you want to go into the business side of arts, the arts management concentration allows you take classes in the arts but also in the School of Business Administration, enhancing your arts education with a dose of business savvy.

• You can study firsthand the Alfred O. Deshong Collection of 19th and 20th century American paintings, 19th century European paintings and 18th century and 19th century Asian art all on campus in Widener’s Art Gallery and Collection.

• You’ll have numerous classes from which to choose, all taught by a talented and accomplished faculty.

• You can use electives to double-major or minor in other fields such as creative writing, modern languages, and pre-physical therapy.
