The computer science department offers two different majors depending on your personal interests.
The computer science major consists of a sequence of core courses and a set of technical elective courses. The core courses cover fundamental principles. The upper-level courses include two full-year course sequences and provide in-depth exploration of two chosen areas in computer science, or related areas in mathematics, physics, or engineering. The program prepares students for graduate study or for employment as computer scientists.
Suggested CS class schedule.
The computer information systems major is a combination of the computer science major in the College of Arts and Sciences and the management information systems (MIS) option in the School of Business Administration. This major provides a less theoretical and more applied curriculum than the computer science major, taking advantage of some applied courses in MIS. The first two years of the curriculum are similar to the computer science major.
The last two years of the curriculum introduce the student to advanced MIS courses and allows the student to focus on a number of areas in information systems trough the MIS/CSCI electives. The major prepare students to design, build and maintain computer information systems. Graduates of the major can gain employment as systems and network analysts and database and network administrator.
Both the computer science and computer information systems majors share the same computer facilities.
