A separate computing facility supports the computer science and computer information systems programs, independent of the facilities that serve the computing needs of all university students. This newly renovated computer science laboratory is housed in Kirkbride Hall, the science and engineering building, in room 242 and is run by John Stoddart, supervisor of the computer science lab.
Students are hired as managers and are specially trained for the continued operations of the lab. This computing facility consists of a network of new and late-model Intel-based machines. Three network attached printers and a scanner can also be found in the lab.
A rich assortment of software is available, including compilers for Java, Python, C/C , LISP, Prolog, and FORTRAN. Several operating systems are installed including Windows XP and Linux. The database software used are MySQL and Oracle.
The computer science department also has two beowolf clusters and a quad-processor machine on the fourth floor of Kirkbride.
