Communication Studies Major
Are you interested in a career in advertising, public relations, broadcasting, film studies, graphic design, journalism or human communication? Do you want to pursue law school or graduate studies in these fields? If yes, Widener University's communication studies major provides the ideal path for you.
And, if you have a special interest in computers and communications, check out our new major in Media Informatics!
Why pursue communication studies at Widener?
You will focus on both the media and the ways in which society helps shape them and the ways media helps shape society. You will study traditional media (TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines) and new forms of online and social networking media (blogs, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube).
You have a variety of hands-on opportunities to learn and practice your chosen craft. You can volunteer for WDNR-FM, the student-run radio station, or The Dome, a student-run campus publication. You can join Widener TV, channel 85 on campus, or the Widener chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
Your studies will delve into the theories of communication, undertaking individual and interpersonal communication and extending to communication in groups and to a diverse public.
We invite you to come to campus and meet with our faculty and students. Experience the excitement that makes the Communication Studies Department at Widener a great place to build a foundation for a successful career.
