Biochemistry Major

Biochemistry is the intersection between Biology and Chemistry. The Biochemistry Major at Widener is more interdisciplinary than most comparable programs. It is also one of the most challenging majors at Widener and is intended for serious students with outstanding academic credentials, particularly in Biology and Chemistry.

Biochemistry Majors frequently pursue postgraduate studies in medicine, dentistry or physical therapy. They often enter graduate programs or seek employment in areas such as biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, molecular biology or biotechnology. Given the rigor of the program, successful Biochemistry majors have extremely high medical school acceptance rates. The Biochemistry major incorporates all the science courses required for medical school admission.

Through the availability of an accessible and supportive faculty, Biochemistry majors are actively involved in the research process and are encouraged to work independently. All students are provided with ongoing mentoring throughout their collegiate careers.
