Senior Projects

Senior projects are capstone experiences. These projects generally involve unsolved problems evolving from current technology and include creative conception, design, development, construction, and evaluation. Projects involve both analytical and laboratory experiences in which students work in small groups with a faculty advisor.

The goals are to enable students to perform engineering and managerial functions required to solve a complete project, and also to challenge students to communicate orally and in writing on the progress and results of their work. To achieve these goals, students must combine and apply knowledge gained from other courses and experiences, as well as from project-specific laboratory and analytical efforts.

The course is conducted to simulate engineering activities as performed in both the private and public sectors. Students become members of a fictitious consulting engineering company. The project’s faculty advisor(s) functions as supervisor of the company’s engineering department and provides technical guidance. The projects’ coordinator functions as supervisor of the company’s project management department and is concerned with project development, execution, and completion with regard to resources.
