Project SEED Information

Project SEED (Solar Energy for Ella Drua) will provide electricity for a small tribal village in Ella Drua, Panama. The electricity will be used for lighting to enable nighttime studying and other activities previously limitedby the villager's use of kerosene lanterns.
The primary need of the community is low cost sustainable energy. Ella Drua does not have electricity and has been unable to provide this basic necessity to the community members. The mission of the project is to improve the quality of life for the families in Ella Drua. With light and electricity we will be able to increase the economic opportunities, improve the quality of education and compete with local tourism communities. This will further the development of the community and be the first step to improving the quality of life for the community members. The project will reach each every community member. Currently, 3 families have small generators that power small light bulbs, power cell phones and other small electronic devices. The goal is to provide sustainable electricity to the inhabitants of Ella Drua through the use of solar energy. There will either be individual solar panels for each home or a centralized collection and distribution center. Both options will be investigated and the specific design will be determined after the assessment trip.
