Civil engineers use imagination, creativity, and technical knowledge to design, construct, and maintain the systems that keep our society functioning. Building bridges, railroads and airports, highways, mass transit systems, dams, waste disposal and environmental protection systems, water supplies, and harbors and beaches are examples of the types of structures and systems with which civil engineers work.
Widener’s civil engineering program provides a broad-based education in a supportive environment that encourages inquisitive, analytical, and creative thinking, and also exposes students to real-world practical aspects of the civil engineering profession.
The civil engineering program, which is ABET accredited, can be completed in four years with or without an optional cooperative education experience.
The Civil Engineering program provides:
- A basis in the natural and engineering sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences.
- A required introduction to several subdisciplines within civil engineering including environmental, structural, geotechnical, and transportation engineering.
- An opportunity to participate in our co-op Program.
- An opportunity to specialize in one of the subdisciplines through senior year elective courses.
Widener Undergraduate Engineering Programs are accredited by The Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, telephone: (410) 347-7700.
