One Year Online Masters

One Year Online Masters

The Center for Education is pleased to announce the implementation of three accelerated online Master of Education programs: Educational Foundations, Reading and Instructional Technology. These programs are designed for students who wish to earn the Master's degree in a short time frame without having to commute to campus. The programs can be completed in one year by following the schedule indicated below. If a student wishes to extend the program beyond one year, s/he can take courses at a later time than indicated on the one year schedule and/or come to campus.

The advantage of these programs is that they culminate in a Master of Education degree from a Pennsylvania university with an "on the ground" campus. This is very important in terms of long term advancement as many school boards do not recognize or are very wary of entirely online schools. The work load is substantial since all work that is typically done in the class room is done online. Hence, you should plan on 42 hours of online learning and whatever ancillary activities an on campus class would have such as papers, reports, and the like. The 42 hour guideline is mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The advantage for students is the online environment fits well into their work schedule and allows them to complete class work when it is convenient to them.

The tuition for the online programs is the same as our regular classes, which for the 2011-2012 academic year is $674 a credit. We use the same highly qualified instructors for our online program as we do for our on campus classes, all of whom have terminal degrees in their area of expertise and years of experience.

In order to facilitate entrance into the program into the Educational Foundations program, the Center will waive its normal admission requirements of the MAT/GRE exam and writing sample for qualified students who have an acceptable undergraduate GPA.  The Reading and Instructional Technology programs still require the MAT/GRE  and writing sample at this time.

All admitted students will be given a Campus Cruiser account. The online program will run on one of two online formats, Campus Cruiser or Web Study, depending on faculty preference. This will be announced by the faculty member via e-mail in your Campus Cruiser account. Please be sure to check your e-mail regularly.

You may apply for the programs online. Please be sure to indicate on your application that you are applying for the one year online Masters program. Here is a link to access the online application form.

One's initial registration must be done with the paper registration form. After that you will be able to register online.
