Graduate Degrees

We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2012. Please call with any questions.

In March, the Board of Trustees approved the conversion of the EdD in Human Sexuality Education to a PhD in Human Sexuality, which was determined to be the appropriate terminal degree for this program of interdisciplinary study. The PhD is also the degree earned by doctoral graduates of this program when it was at the University of Pennsylvania. Story.

We offer a Masters of Education degree or Doctor of Philosophy in human sexuality through two tracks: sexuality education and clinical sexology. Dual degrees in social work, clinical psychology and School Counseling provide clinical training combined with a specialization in sexuality.

Am I On the Right Track?

If you're interested in a career helping people as a sexuality educator and/or teaching or doing research in sexuality education, than ask us about our sexuality education track at either the master's or doctoral level.

If you feel a desire to help others through sex therapy or other work in clinical sexology, than our clinical track may be right for you. Those interested in training in clinical sexology (sex therapy) must either enter with a clinical master's degree (Master of Social Work, Family Therapy, Counseling, etc.), or must enroll in one our dual degree programs.

Dual Degree Programs For Therapists
When choosing one of our dual-degree programs, in social work or psychology, it is important to note that you must first be a therapist; then, you can gain sexuality specialization knowledge through either our master's or doctoral degree.

The largest increases in applications and enrollments in the past two years have been in the clincial track, particularly in the dual degree with Social Work, including the Master of Social Work and the Master of Education degrees.

Among new students and applicants, about half are in the clinical track. While considering your options, please explore clinical social work by contacting the Widener University Social Work Department or visiting the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) http://www.naswdc.org/.
