  2. Upon receiving approval from the dean to proceed, the student must obtain the syllabus for each course requested and demonstrate, in writing, the correlation between the course learning objectives and the learning gained through work and life experiences.
    a. In order to complete the above, the student must inventory life learning experiences and skills by submitting a resume and a reflective paper highlighting the appropriate experience as it relates to the course content area.
    b. Documentation, including but not limited to written programs, lesson plans, testimonials, or other media should be included to demonstrate learning.
In essence, the student must demonstrate mastery of course theory though personal and professional learning experiences.
  3. Student must complete at least two or three reading assignments from each course and then describe in writing how they would use the information presented.
    a. Documentation should demonstrate how the student applied the learning objectives and theories to the work environment or life experience.
    b. Student should also provide examples of how they applied the learning objectives and theory.
  4. As students prepare the portfolio they should use the Experiential Learning Portfolio sheets to organize their documentation.  If documentation of confidential nature is being used as part of the portfolio, student should either black out the confidential information or describe the documentation you wish to use in detail.
  5. All students requesting portfolio assessment must have completed at least one writing sample.
  6. All written material submitted must be typed or word-processed.

Once completed the student should submit written documentation to the dean or assistant dean.  In consultation with the course content experts, the Assistant Dean or Dean of University College will review the portfolio for academic credit.

Once approved for academic credit, the student will be notified of the course and credit awarded and the registrar will be notified to place the portfolio course and credit on the transcript.
