HONORS COURSES
Courses offered in the Honors Program in General Education differ from non-honors courses in a number of ways. They are generally smaller, are discussion-oriented, and are invariably taught by some of the best professors on campus. Honors faculty often develop special topics and assignments for students, so that courses are challenging, but not necessarily more difficult than commensurate non-honors courses.
Greater Depth of Inquiry
Course syllabi are usually flexible, and faculty frequently encourage student involvement in setting the direction of courses. For the most part, only students in the Honors Program in General Education can enroll in these classes.
Students who participate are required to take the Honors English course and at least one other honors course in their first semester. These introductory courses include: Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Criminal Justice, Chemistry, and Macroeconomics.
Advanced-level Seminars
The program also offers advanced-level seminars, or colloquia, to enable students to explore areas that otherwise may not be included in the academic offerings.
