Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Leaman says,"I am committed to making sure that Widener undergraduate students, no matter their major, benefit from excellent teaching and from opportunities for high-impact practices such as research with faculty, internships and coops, community engagement, and global learning and other intercultural immersions."

Rooted in a strong liberal arts tradition, the College of Arts & Sciences encourages you to explore many diverse interests while progressing toward a degree. Why Widener?

We provide many diverse learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom. Our graduates learn how to solve complex problems by working together on interdisciplinary projects. For example, environmental science students study the biodiversity of the region while communication studies students document their work. Another group of students work together to address the high cost of higher education and participate in political lobbying in Harrisburg and Washington, DC.

Civic Engagement & Service Learning

If you want to help others in the local community, Philadelphia region, or globally, then Widener is the place for you! Widener’s civic engagement opportunities and community outreach programs give you hands-on experience, help you develop your leadership skills, and teach you how to collaborate and communicate across class barriers and cultures–all the while helping others through your skills and service. A current project is called Boundaries and Bridges, a collaboration between the College of Arts & Sciences and Devon Walls of The Artist Warehouse. This project is funded by a Catalyst Grant from the Barra Foundation.
