Philosophy & Religion

Philosophy is the practice of scrutiny, of carefully examining the world and our own relationship to it.

It is the oldest of disciplines, and it has its roots in the natural human desire to understand ourselves. Study in philosophy instructs students to read carefully, think coherently, and write accurately and persuasively.

While there is no major or minor in philosophy at Widener, courses in various philosophical topics form an essential part of all students' general education requirements. One can study logic, ethics (both pure and applied), and aesthetics, as well as the perennial questions of epistemology and metaphysics.
