Clubs & Organizations, English and Creative Writing
English Club Flash Mic
Students from the English Club share poetry and music during a lunchtime flash mic.
Getting involved couldn’t be easier for English and creative writing majors at Widener. For example, students develop real-world editorial experience by working for a variety of university publications. This kind of “learning-by-doing” atmosphere allows Widener students to develop workplace leadership skills that stay with them beyond their four years of college.
Below are a few English and creative writing clubs and organizations offered to students at Widener.
The English Club is all about the appreciation and celebration of English, creative writing, and literature. It provides an outlet for students to help their peers with writing and literature studies and also showcases the arts scene on campus and in the Philadelphia area by sponsoring open mics, game nights, and other English-related social events.
Widener Ink, a literary journal published each spring, takes student submissions of fiction, poetry, nonfiction, drama, and art. Additionally, working on the journal's staff gives students hands-on experience in editing and publishing. Read a recent issue.
Blue & Gold
While the Blue & Gold isn’t your traditional newspaper, it is the hub for student news and media at Widener. The website upholds the goals and standards of a traditional media outlet, but in a new way that embraces the digital age.
Lone Brick Theatre Company
The Lone Brick Theatre Company is new to Widener's campus. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to join in this up-and-coming theater company. Check out some pictures from a recent performance.
