Accelerated Programs, Pre-Health Care Professions
Widener has several seven-year (3+4) dual-degree programs where a student completes the first three years of the biology major curriculum (including all general education requirements) and then begins a four-year program at a professional school instead of finishing the senior year at Widener.
Upon completion of the first year of professional school, the course work is transferred to Widener, and Widener awards the bachelor of science degree in biology.
The programs are listed below:
- Allopathic BS/MD program
with Saint George's University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies
- Osteopathic BS/DO program
with Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
- Dentistry BS/DMD program
with Temple University School of Dentistry
- Optometry BS/OD program
with Salus University, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Elkins Park, PA
- Podiatric MedicineBS/DPM program
with Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine
Students apply to these programs after their second year at Widener and find out if they are accepted in their third year at Widener. These are not guaranteed acceptance programs, and students are encouraged to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA to be competitive.
Interested students should meet with the pre-health professions advisor as soon as arriving on campus to ensure that prerequisite courses and standardized exams are completed in time for the application to the professional school.
