Scholarship Opportunities, Continuing Studies
The Center for Continuing Studies of the School of Education, Hospitality, and Continuing Studies awards several academic and need-based scholarships throughout the academic year to adult and nontraditional students at Widener University. Each scholarship is made possible through gifts from various benefactors to Widener University and has specific eligibility requirements.
Continuing Studies Scholarships
To Apply for a Continuing Studies Scholarship, you must complete our online application form. All applicants will be reviewed for any appropriate award available (see list of scholarships below and the application form for more information about each one).
Applications are due:
- September 1 for the fall semester
- January 15 for the spring semester
A new application is required each semester as scholarships are not automatically renewed.
Scholarship award amounts are based on enrollment; therefore, students must be enrolled for the upcoming semester to be eligible. Each applicant must also complete the FAFSA prior to being considered for a scholarship. The award amounts vary based on availability, but are typically intended to cover the cost of one 3-credit Continuing Studies course.
Scholarships awarded through the Center for Continuing Studies include:
- The General Adult Scholarship
- The Edith Hannum Scholarship
- The Osher Reentry Scholarship
- The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation Scholarship
Outside Scholarship Opportunities for Nontraditional Students
The following is a list of outside scholarship opportunities that may be of interest to nontraditional students. Please note that these programs are not specific to Widener University, and any questions should be directed to each individual organization.
These scholarships are awarded to selected individuals who are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in an allied health career and who currently live in the TCF Service Area. The deadline for application submission is typically in the fall.
This organization provides scholarships and support for low-income women 35 years and older to build better lives through college completion. The application deadline varies; see website for details.
This scholarship is open to students 24 years of age or older currently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program who have at least 30 credits at Widener University and a 3.2 cumulative grade point average. Students need not be members of Alpha Sigma Lambda to apply. Scholarship applications are typically due in March/April for the following academic year.
For Delaware students only, this program is open to residents of (or those employed in) Delaware who have had at least a two-year break in education after completing high school or during college. Students must be admitted to a degree program at the undergraduate level. Applications are due by May 15 of each year.
