Education majors are some of the most active students on campus.

Through different clubs and organizations, they routinely use their time outside of the classroom to participate in civic engagement opportunities in the community.

Below are a few education clubs and organizations offered to students at Widener.

Science Teaching Center

The Science Teaching Center (STC) provides comprehensive outreach programs for public and private schools in the Greater Delaware Valley region. The center’s mission is to improve science education and help others understand the way the world works.

International Honor Society in Education

Widener’s local chapter of Kappa Delta Pi fosters excellence in education and promotes fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. Kappa Delta Pi is an international organization and has more than 1.2 million members.

Widener Student Education Association (WSEA)

Widener Student Education Association is a local organization that serves to promote and increase interest in teaching and community engagement. The local chapter is associated with national and state student chapters. Its activities include community involvement projects and campus activities designed to promote professionalism in education. All students enrolled in teacher certification courses are strongly encouraged to become members.

Higher Education Student Association (HESA)

The Higher Education Student Association (HESA) is a graduate student organization that supports master and doctoral students in the higher education programs at Widener. Led by students, HESA offers professional, academic, and social programming throughout the year. From happy hours to guest speakers, HESA enriches the student experience and offers resources beyond the classroom.

Alpha Upsilon Alpha Honor Society

Alpha Upsilon Alpha, the honor society of the International Literacy Association recognizes and encourages scholarship, the development of personal and professional leadership, and service to the field of reading at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Members are acknowledged for having excelled in their chosen field of study, and are recognized as professionals committed to the importance of reading and language arts in education.
