Field Experience-Right From the Start 

Field placements are the hallmark of Widener's education programs. Pre-service teacher candidates gain hands-on experience in local schools beginning in their first education class. The Child Development Center and Widener Partnership Charter School offer lab-school settings to put theory into practice.

Fast Track to a Master's Degree with Advanced Standing

Widener offers a special five-year combined BA/MEd program in middle years education, which cuts cost for those undergraduate students interested in pursuing a master’s degree. You can take graduate level courses starting in your junior year and complete your BA with 15 graduate credits. You then move into your master’s degree in instructional technology in your fifth year with only 15 credits to complete. In addition, you will have the depth of knowledge gained from multiple certifications and a master’s degree that are required to meet the needs of diverse student groups of today and the future.

Free Introductory Education Course 

During the summer months, Widener offers a complimentary introductory education course for rising high school juniors and seniors. ED 101 is focused on the practical applications and the responsibilities of the teaching profession. The foundations, history, and philosophy of education are examined and current trends in education are presented. Upon completion of the course, participants will earn three (3) credits, transferrable to the undergraduate education programs

ncateThe Center for Education at Widener is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), www.ncate.org. This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs at Widener’s Main Campus and online programs. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P–12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes.
