Dual Degrees

Widener's School of Engineering knows that engineering will continue to push boundaries— between disciplines, industries, and areas of knowledge.

To prepare students for this reality, we offer dual degree options for engineers who wish to strengthen their education with advanced graduate level work in two areas.

MEng/MBA Program

Jointly administered by Widener's Schools of Engineering and Business Administration, this program gives emerging engineering leaders technical training coupled with advanced study in business and management.

By means of careful selection and coordination of courses to avoid overlap, the dual degree may be earned with a minimum total number of credits— 54 with thesis or 57 without.

This program is available in all of the engineering majors except Engineering Management and requires separate applications for each degree program. Acceptance into both is prerequisite to acceptance as a dual MEng/MBA candidate. See the course catalog for additional details.

Dual Specialization

Graduate students may also choose to pursue a dual specialization while achieving their master of engineering degree.

This program is designed for the engineer who wishes to strengthen his/her engineering education with advanced work at the graduate level, and would like to build additional knowledge in a second area of engineering. The Dual Specialization MEng is available in all of the engineering majors and combinations.

Typically, student combines the specialization in which they received their undergraduate degree (example: civil, chemical, electrical, or mechanical) with an additional specialization in engineering management. At the completion of the program, the student is awarded one master of engineering degree, with two specializations.

By means of careful selection and coordination of courses to avoid overlap, the dual specialization may be earned with a considerable saving in total time and credit requirements.

The minimum total number of credits is 39 with thesis or 42 without thesis. In such cases, students must satisfy all requirements of the two programs and complete an additional 9 credits in the second program.
