Events & Workshops, Business

Deciding where to go to college is a challenge. Adding to the pressure is trying to decide what to study. At Widener, we make it easy for you to determine your career path. We hold various events on campus that help point you in the right direction.

Activities for High School Students

Many high school students remain uncertain about what field of study they will pursue in college. To help these students make informed choices, the School of Business Administration conducts a variety of educational programming for high school students. Through these programs, we introduce students to the opportunities that lie ahead in the field of business, while at the same time exposing them to a college learning environment.

Academic Workshop for Young Women

The Academic Workshop for Young Women provides opportunities for young women to learn how to network, solve business problems by participating in a business simulation game, and develop their emotional intelligence. Students will meet successful alumnae and learn how these women have created a business career that satisfies them. This interactive day involves our faculty, alumnae, and business partners all coming together to inspire young women to become tomorrow’s business leaders.

Financial Literacy Workshop

In the Financial Literacy Workshop, our highly regarded professors take students through the dangers of credit cards and explain the benefits of compound interest, in addition to covering a number of other topics relevant for smart financial decision making. It’s informative but also interactive and fun

Summer Camp

Our Summer Camp runs for three days in July: July 16,17,18, female high school students will be able to learn about branding. We will ask you to talk about yourself, learn about yourself and branding. We will teach you how big companies do branding and how you can learn from them: to Brand yourself. We will talk you to UPS to learn about safe driving, you will go to a Blue Rocks Game, learn about college life and how to put yourself in the best position to be successful. We will take your head shots and teach you about marketing, branding and building relationships.

Celebratory Events

We like to connect our alumni, students, and industry partners. Check out the many events we offer each year to help you stay connected with us and one another.

SBA Awards Banquet

Our SBA Awards Banquet honors our excellent students and faculty for their accomplishments with a series of awards. We also recognize an outstanding member of the business community and acknowledge his or her accomplishments. This honoree then addresses the crowd, followed by an evening of networking and conversation with our industry partners, students, parents, and faculty. This event takes place in March at The Springhaven Club. See the 2017 Awards Banquet Photo Album.

In the fall, the dean hosts an afternoon reception outside of Quick Stadium during Homecoming. Students, faculty, and alumni gather to enjoy great weather, football, and food and to reminisce about their time at Widener.

Dean’s Holiday Reception

In December, the dean invites alumni, industry partners, faculty, and graduate students to attend a holiday reception. It is our most popular and well-attended event. The evening is fun and full of stories as faculty welcome back their former students. Every year, our attendance grows as students in the working world return to share their successes.

Commencement Breakfast

Prior to commencement, the dean and our faculty host a breakfast for School of Business Administration graduates and their families. Students get the chance to introduce their family members to their professors and reflect once more about their time at Widener. For us, we get the opportunity to celebrate our graduates in a more intimate setting before heading out to Memorial Field for the commencement ceremony.
