My Widener Experience
why did you decide to major in accounting?
I decided to go into accounting because I enjoyed the accounting classes I had in high school. The more classes in college that I took in my major, the more I loved the field I had chosen.
if you were to do your college experience at widener again, what wouldn't you change?
I would not change participating in the co-op program because the experience that I gained was so valuable and helped me to determine that I was going into the right profession. I would not change my major, nor taking three minors, because the classes that I took really helped me to develop the skills I needed to become an accounting and tax professional. I enjoyed challenging myself with all of those classes.
My Professional Experience
what advice would you give a prospective student considering your major?
Widener's School of Business Administration offers accounting students a great opportunity to participate in the co-op program; you can get paid experience and still graduate in four years. That was a big factor for me when I was choosing what school to attend and what program I wanted to be in. I could test out if this was the major that I really wanted to be in and could still graduate on time while getting experience necessary to get a job after graduation. Definitely take advantage of this opportunity—it helped me figure out my career path.
what do you like most about your current position?
I like that I prepare many different types of tax returns and participate in tax planning work. My coworkers make all the difference—we have so much fun at work. I am happy to be where I am right now, and I can work towards my goal of receiveing my masters in taxation and financial planning at the same time.
