Concentrations

  • Traditional Finance Track

For students bound for positions with financial institutions and investment houses, the traditional finance track will prepare you for professional positions in companies like Vanguard, BNY Mellon, and JPMorgan Chase.

  • Financial Planning Track

The financial planning track is appropriate if you wish to start your own financial planning business. Widener is one of only two universities in the region that qualifies you to sit for the certified financial planner (CFP®) exam at the end of the program.

Why Widener?

SMIF

Involvement in Student Managed Investment Fund

Finance majors can gain real-world experience through the on-campus Money Club and by running the student managed investment fund. Students learn valuable money management skills from an advisory board of professionals from leading financial firms, many of whom are Widener alumni.

Michael Quinn

Internship Opportunities

Widener assists students in finding internships that provide valuable financial experience and on-the-job training. Student athlete Michael Quinn, for example, is getting real-world experience through his internship in the card services department of JPMorgan Chase. Michael’s team is responsible for tracking trends within the fraud atmosphere and using that knowledge to institute new initiatives or processes to prevent fraud.

A Pathway to a Profession

Classes are taught by industry experts who prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed in today's workplace. In the Financial Practices and Regulations course, students prepare to take the Series 65 exam, designed to qualify candidates as investment adviser representatives. Widener students are also qualified to sit for the CFP exam following completion of the degree program.
