Co-ops & Internships, Finance
"My two co-op experiences with Penn Capital Management and South Jersey Industries were nothing short of amazing. I gained valuable, real-world experience, expanded my resume, and prepared for my professional life after college.” -Mark Toner, finance '17
An internship is required for finance majors so that students can gain real-world experience to complement their classroom learning while also exploring what they want—and don’t want—in a future career.
We help connect students with our industry partners for an internship or co-op experience that suits their interests. We encourage our students to use these experiences to sharpen the skills they’ve acquired in the classroom, learn new skills on the job, and connect with professionals who can serve as mentors and networking contacts.
Hear from some of our recent Widener finance students about their experiences in an internship or co-op.
I am fortunate to have an internship with Devon Financial Partners. As part of my internship, I am becoming licensed to sell Life, Casualty, and Health Insurance, which will give me a head start in building my client base. I’ve also been working to develop a new target market for the firm. This internship has given me the experience that I need to move forward in my career even before graduation.
My co-op experience at DuPont has been extremely rewarding. The fact that I’m able to apply what I learned in the classroom to real-life situations has been an amazing way to hone my skills. I now feel that I have a better understanding of what the financial business world has in store for me after graduation. I can bring that understanding into classroom discussions to share with my peers as well.
