AASECT & Other Professional Affiliations
A number of professional organizations support sexuality-related work. Some are certifying organizations, while others are membership organizations; some are specific to sexuality, and some are subgroups within larger, discipline-specific organizations.
Students are encouraged to explore all of the options for connecting within the interdisciplinary field of human sexuality. The Center for Human Sexuality Studies (CHSS) will always welcome you as a professional “home base.” Finding other professional communities in which to connect and network with can only strengthen your career.
The curriculum at the CHSS is designed based upon best practices in training sexologists. As a result, students who complete our degrees are well prepared should they choose to apply for certification as a sexuality educator or sex therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). While students may still have requirements in practice hours or supervision to complete post-graduation, they will have the foundation for all categories of AASECT certification.
