Career Summary: Dr. Pillai-Friedman started her career in 1984 as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Science at Holy Cross College, Trichy, India. She moved to the USA in 1989 and completed her doctorate at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College. She was trained in family therapy at the Family Institute of Philadelphia and in couples therapy and sex therapy at the Council for Relationships. Dr. Pillai-Friedman has specialized training in PAIRS® (Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills) and in PREPARE/ENRICH, a program developed to work effectively with couples preparing to make a commitment and those who are in committed relationships. She has been a psychotherapist for nearly twenty five years and she has a wealth of experience working with individuals and couples in all stages of the life cycle. She has specialized training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She uses EMDR to treat anxiety, trauma and sexual difficulties. 

 

Until August 2011 she was the director of Institute for Sex Therapy at the Council for Relationships in Philadelphia and was responsible for directing the sex therapy practice and the Masters and Post Graduate Programs in Sex therapy.

 

Dr. Pillai-Friedman is also an AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists) certified sex therapist and AASECT approved supervisor.
