Sexuality and Aging Consortium

logoWelcome to a new era in sexuality — an era in which sexuality for adults in mid and later life becomes richer and more fulfilling through education, training, counseling, and advocacy.

Humans are sexual throughout the lifespan, which affects everything about us from sexual expression to sexual health and attractions of the heart. Sexuality and Aging Consortium members provide sexuality education, counseling, and resources for older adults, their families and caregivers. We also offer training, consulting, and policy development services to the professionals who serve them.

How Does the Sexuality and Aging Consortium at Widener University Help?

Changes in one’s living environment, physical and emotional health, and cognitive abilities require new ways of thinking about intimacy. We educate and counsel individuals and couples on how to enhance their relationships and sexual quality of life.

The sexuality of people living in long-term care can challenge administrators and staff of long-term care facilities. We foster sex-positive environments by consulting on policy development and staff training.

Families are affected by their older relatives’ sexual expression. We offer programs and counseling that help individuals, couples and families preserve elders’ dignity and privacy. The need is great for information about the need for and impact of sexuality education for adults in mid and later life. We conduct and support research that will enhance the development of effective sexuality education curricula and programming.
