Why Widener?

hands-on learning

Hands-on Learning

At Widener, we develop social workers whose influences are known throughout the field and community. You'll find that our social work programs provide the academic preparation and hands-on experiences needed to develop critical thinking and professional skills necessary to affect positive change in the lives of disadvantaged populations and communities. Plus, you’ll make valuable connections through our community partnerships and find opportunities to actively participate in social change throughout your education.

Widener's Social Work Clinics

Social Work Counseling Services (SWCS) was created in 2000 as a university and community partnership dedicated to improving the quality of life for Chester residents. The Clinical Services for Vulnerable Adults (CSVA) was created in 2013 to increase the number of social workers serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

global impact

Global Impact

During international trips, students get the opportunity to apply what is learned in the program abroad. Students learn real-world applications of global social work theories and the impact that international policies and globalization have on local populations. Field placements include work with refugee/immigrant populations. Past destinations included trips to China, Netherlands, Great Britain, Thailand, and Japan
