Why Widener?

concurrent and integrated focus

Concurrent and Integrated Focus

The dual degree program in social work and human sexuality allows students to earn two graduate degrees (MSW and MEd) in only three years. Each semester, students take courses in both the social work and human sexuality departments and are encouraged to integrate their learning both in the classroom and in the field. Field placements for dual degree students are designed to call upon knowledge and skills learned in both programs of study.

valued human sexuality perspective

Valued Human Sexuality Perspective

Dual degree students are fully integrated in the social work program, bringing a valued perspective through their special areas of practice. Widener’s program is unique for its intentional preparation of social workers who are not only comfortable in discussing and addressing sexuality in their social work practice but are also well qualified to work in areas that focus explicitly on sexuality, such as work with individuals with human trafficking and sexual abuse histories or individuals with stigmatized gender or sexual identities.
