Banfi Scholastic Wine Tour
By Jennifer Dublisky Kitchen, Assistant PR Director
Zachary Margolis ’13, spent part of his summer sipping fine wine and indulging in
Italian food at someone
else’s expense. Margolis was the recipient of this year’s scholarship to participate in the Banfi Scholastic Wine Tour in Tuscany, Italy. The one-week tour is sponsored by Banfi Vintners.
Each year, Banfi invites American students in select hospitality management programs to attend a food and wine seminar at Castello Banfi, the company’s estate vineyard in Montalcino.
Assistant Professor Jeff Lolli joined Margolis on the journey. During their time in Tuscany, they learned about the large scale production of wine at the Banfi estate vineyard and visited one of the main producers of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. They also got the opportunity to make pasta by hand. Margolis especially enjoyed learning about the process of making wine. “I am very passionate about food and wine."
The Oceanside, New York resident even celebrated his 21st birthday with his newfound friends. "It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain access to some of the best wine in the world and some of the best food.”
