Internships

Learn. Work. Succeed.

Widener University believes it’s never too early to start getting real-world work experience. Our students feel the same way.

  • 66% of Widener seniors have completed a practicum, internship, or other hands-on experience compared to 52% of students at other colleges, according to the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).

When it comes to on-the-job training and internship opportunities off-campus in our hometown of Chester and in Philadelphia, Widener has lots to offer. Through our extensive network of local, regional, and national partners you can find a position that fits your professional aspirations.

  • Through Widener’s Social Work Counseling Services (SWCS), students apply classroom learning to field internships where they offer free social work services to under-served populations in Chester.
  • Communication studies students work with local businesses and nonprofits to create documentaries, public service announcements, and public relations campaigns.
  • Nursing students volunteer at the Widener Community Nursing Clinic in Chester, which provides physical assessments, some medical care, referrals to support groups, and education programs.

But don’t worry; when it comes to getting real-world job experience, you’re not on your own. From résumé critiques to mock interviews to one-on-one coaching and mentoring to placement, our dedicated career services staff will walk you through each step of the process.

Plus, as a Widener graduate, you’ll have access to life-long career support services and the latest career development resources even after you graduate. Participating in an internship at Widener will bring you one step closer to the job of your dreams.
