Honors Program in General Education

Widener's Honors Program in General Education brings together highly motivated undergraduate students and dedicated faculty who share a curiosity about the world and a sense of the adventure of discovery. 

Requirements

If you were in the top ten percent of your graduating class, received SAT scores of 1200 or higher, and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher, you may join the program as an entering freshman. If you're a transfer student, you can still participate if you still have general education requirements to complete.

Don't despair if your scores don't quite make the cut. If you display the necessary academic initiative, you may be invited into the program after the first or second semester of your freshman year. 

Courses

Courses are designed to meet the needs of our general education requirements. There here are no prerequisites. To cover the broadest range of interests and topics, available honors courses frequently change from semester-to-semester. 

Benefits 

As an honors student, you'll be assigned a mentor. Other benefits include priority registration, honors housing, and up to $2,000 in scholarship money. Honors classes are usually small courses led by enthusiastic and engaged professors. Honors students can attend a variety of academic and social events, like the Philadelphia Speaker Series. 

If you complete the honors program you'll receive a Certificate of Honors in General Education or a Certificate of Advanced Honors in General Education. Graduates with honors recognition find that employers and graduate school admission officers look favorably on such distinctions when making hiring or admission decisions.
