For Higher Education Programs
Provide a personal statement of purpose (up to three pages) in which you describe your academic and professional goals. Discuss how the study of higher education will contribute to your ability to meet those goals, including why you believe you will be successful in Widener’s program in particular. Explain how your strengths and professional experiences will contribute to your ability to be successful in advancing your goals, as well as any challenges you anticipate.
Finally, describe the topics or areas of study you are most interested in studying, and how you plan to develop expertise in those areas through the doctoral program in higher education at Widener.
For K-12 Educational Leadership Programs
Write an essay on how a superintendent or a principal shapes learning in one's school district or school. You should write this essay based on your beliefs and experiences.
If you are applying for certification as a superintendent (letter of eligibility), you should focus on how a superintendent shapes learning in a school district; and if you are applying for certification as a principal (Principal Certification), you should focus on how a principal shapes learning in a school.
For Reading Programs
Provide a personal statement of approximately 500 words describing the professional journey that has brought you to the pursuit of a doctoral program in reading. Describe interests and issues that have influenced you. Discuss challenges you anticipate in your role as a doctoral candidate. Be sure to share what you believe you will contribute to the doctoral program. Additionally, clearly state the goals you hope to achieve as a doctoral candidate in reading, as well career goals for the future.
