I-20 Cost
In order to issue an I-20, the U.S. government has stated that you must show the ability to pay an entire academic year’s worth of tuition, fees, and other costs. The I-20 cost, broken down below, is not an actual number, but instead includes a number of estimates for student expenses. Nonetheless, in order for an I-20 to be issued, you must demonstrate enough funding and/or scholarship awards to fulfill the total cost.

Breakdown of I-20 Cost
- Tuition includes one year of study, broken into two semesters – Fall and Spring. Each semester includes a minimum of 12 credits -usually four courses- but generally includes more credits. Students will meet with an academic advisor before each semester to set up the course schedule best for them.
- Fees include a Technology Fee ($350) that pays for all computer use, printing, laboratory usage, and more. Also included is a Student Activity Fee ($100) which gives students free entry into on-campus events throughout the year. These events include concerts, sporting events, theater, exhibits, and much more. This fee also allows the university to offer discount tickets for off-campus trips and events.
- Engineering majors must pay an addition fee of $950 for costs associated with their program of study
- Nursing majors must pay an additional fee of $200 in the third and fourth year of study for costs associated with their program of study
- Living expenses are made up of costs for room and board. This amount is based on the average room type and meal plan chosen by first-year students. This amount may vary depending on the housing style and meal plan choice of the student.
- Health Insurance is mandatory for all students studying at U.S. universities. Students are signed up for a health insurance plan that offers quality coverage at a cost of $1,260 per year. The remaining $1,940 accounts for other “miscellaneous” expenses that include the cost of books, spending money, and more.
