University Advancement assists Widener students and faculty through support for scholarships, research, special projects, facilities, grant proposals, and more. University Advancement engages the university’s various constituencies to advance the university’s mission and strategic goals.
University Advancement includes those departments that deal with external relations: alumni engagement, career advising and planning services, development, government and external relations, corporate and foundation relations, and the School of Law development and alumni relations.
Alumni Engagement provides services to 44,000 alumni of Widener University and its predecessor institutions-Widener College, PMC Colleges, and Pennsylvania Military College. The office staff supports the operations of the Widener-PMC Alumni Association and its governing body, the Alumni Council.
Career Advising and Planning Services (CAPS) is a one-stop resource for all students and alumni seeking skills assessment, individual counseling, job-search preparation workshops and tools, and career programs. CAPS provides on-campus recruiting and three annual career fairs. In addition, CAPSnet, an online job posting site, actively provides access to a large, diverse group of employers.
Development secures private financial resources to support the progress of the university and enhance excellence in education for the university's students. Through established relationships with alumni and friends, corporations, foundations and organizations, Development is dedicated to advancing Widener as one of the nation's premier metropolitan universities.
Development and Alumni at Widener University's School of Law secures support for annual, capital, and endowment needs. Development fosters special relationships between Widener Law and its constituents primarily for increased philanthropic opportunities and also to assist other areas across the university. The goal of the School of Law Alumni Office is to encourage and initiate alumni activities that are conducted with the best interest of the alumni and Law School in mind."
Government and External Relations strives to improve public policy by working effectively with government agencies and officials at the city, county, state, and federal levels. The office also works to secure state and federal grants. In recent years, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania sponsored Widener's Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Keystone Innovation Zone, and the School of Law Veterans Law Clinic.
