Advocacy

I encourage everyone to stay abreast of what is happening on the state and national scenes especially on issues that directly impact higher education and I encourage you, as individual citizens, to let your voice be heard.”
-- James T. Harris III, D.Ed. President of Widener University

At Widener University, our students, faculty and staff are encouraged to fully participate in the civic life of our community and nation – and that includes sharing thoughts and ideas in a dialogue with elected representatives.

Through the Office of the President and the Office of Government and External Relations, Widener University also advocates on behalf of important higher education issues. Sources of information about those and other issues can be found at NAICU, AICUP and the Council on Independent Colleges.

Lobbying

Federal and state regulations require Widener to account for every formal request that might benefit the university through a change in public policy or the awarding of a grant or contact.  For that reason, lobbying at Widener University is confined to the Office of the President and the Office of Government and External Affairs.

The firm of Bigley & Blikle, LLC is Widener’s registered lobbyist in Harrisburg. The National Group represents Widener in Washington, D.C. Attorney Claire DeMatteis of Stradley Ronan represents Widener on state issues in Delaware.
