Music Scholarships

Instrumental (Wind Ensemble/Pep Band) music scholarships range from $2,000 - $3,000 for incoming freshmen. A short audition is required prior to the student's acceptance, and full-time academic enrollment (12 credit-hours) is required to be awarded the scholarship.Scholarships are renewable each year.

Scholarship Application Process


Scholarship Auditions

  • A scholarship audition can be taken at any of the Widener Open House events, or by appointment on campus with Dr. Iain Moyer.
  • Students who cannot come to campus for an audition may submit a recording that includes the requirements listed below
  • Maps and Directions to Widener University. 
  • Campus Map to Music Department, located in the Music & Lecture Hall wing of Kapelski Learning Center.


Audition Requirements for Woodwind, Brass, and Rhythm Section Instruments

  • Performance of major scales up to and including two sharps and two flats
  • A chromatic scale displaying your achievable range
  • A performance of a short solo piece that demonstrates your level of technical and musical proficiency OR several excerpts from your current concert band/wind ensemble repertoire
      

To retain a scholarship, students are expected to participate in wind ensemble and pep band, and take private lessons.


Audition Requirements for Percussionists

  • A short snare drum or keyboard solo that demonstrates your level of technical and musical proficiency
  • Mallet players—a keyboard etude available via email to imoyer@widener.edu.
  • Rudimental percussionists—a rudimental etude available via email to imoyer@widener.edu.
      

To retain a scholarship, students are expected to participate in wind ensemble and pep band, and take private lessons.
