Visual Arts

Visual art is more than just putting paintbrush to canvas or charcoal to paper. It allows us to communicate using color, line, and texture.

The College of Arts & Sciences offers instruction to students of all proficiency levels in several art studio courses. In addition to basic and advanced classes in the making of pictures, students can also take a course on two-dimensional design and an advanced studio that incorporates mixed media with internationally recognized artists such as painter Wendy Hatch.

On occasion, student work is displayed at Widener's own art gallery, home of the collection of Chester industrialist Alfred O. Deshong.

Widener students also take advantage of the rich cultural landscape within an hour's drive of campus. The cities of Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware, present numerous opportunities for cultural enrichment through institutions such as:
