Widener University's Fine Arts major is a unique, interdisciplinary approach to the arts. It offers students an integrated academic course of study in the areas of art history, music history, and drama. In addition to the rigorous academic emphasis that will develop critical thinking and writing skills, the major offers students an opportunity to specialize in one area.
The program also provides hands-on, practical opportunities in studio art, music performance, and theater. Fine Arts majors also have an opportunity to use their free electives to double-major or minor in other fields such as creative writing, modern languages, Early Childhood or Elementary Education.
Students may also choose a focus in Arts Management. Arts management is an academic field of study as well as a career path for those interested in supporting the work of performing, visual, and media artists. For those students, the Fine Arts major with an Arts Management Concentration will be an especially attractive option.
It will allow students interested in art history, studio art, theater, dance, music history, and music performance to combine work in an artistic discipline with management and administrative skills. Students pursuing a concentration in arts management will take courses specifically designed to address issues unique to the arts as well as courses currently offered by the School of Business Administration.
