MATHEMATICS

There are three different tracks available in the mathematics major:
  • The Traditional track is designed for students interested in mathematics and is  recommended for those considering graduate study. It includes a broad overview  of the different areas of mathematics including algebra, analysis, geometry,  topology and statistics.

It also has sufficient freedom for a student to pursue a minor in a second area of interest. For example: physics or computer science  in the sciences: finance, accounting or economics in business administration.

  • The Secondary Mathematics Education track is designed for students interested in becoming secondary school mathematics teachers. It includes the mathematics and education courses necessary for certification to teach mathematics at the secondary level.

Widener also offers a masters degree with a major in Mathematics Education for those students already possessing an undergraduate degree and interested in obtaining mathematics certification.

  • The Mathematics and Computer Science track is designed for students interested in the closely related fields of mathematics and computer science. It includes the core material from both mathematics and computer science.

For students in other majors, a mathematics minor is available.
