Steps to Studying Abroad

  1. Choose the purpose and the country for your study abroad experience.

  2. Decide on time and length of stay and talk to your family about your intention to go abroad.

  3. Contact the Study Abroad Coordinator and research prospective programs.

  4. Decide on the program, apply well before the deadline, and submit all required forms.

  5. Choose courses in consultation with your academic advisor and seek transfer credit authorization for more courses than you will need before going abroad.

  6. Secure financial resources for your stay abroad (financial aid, scholarships, bank loans, relatives, etc.).

  7. Acquire necessary documents for your stay abroad (passport, visa , medical insurance , vaccinations, ISIC, etc.).

  8. Notify the registrar of OC (off-campus) 100 status and drop any classes for which you might have pre-registered.

  9. Attend Widener pre-departure meeting.

  10. Enjoy your study abroad experience and keep in touch with the Study Abroad Coordinator.
