Soccer for Success
The U.S. Soccer Foundation selected Widener University to receive a $200,000 grant over two years to operate Soccer for Success, an after-school youth development program that uses soccer as a tool to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for low-income students.
The program began September 2012 with 350 participants in four locations throughout Chester:
- Drexel Neumann Academy
- Stetser Elementary
- Widener Partnership Charter School
- Chester Community Charter School — East Campus
The total number of participants is nearly 500 students in year one, with an overall goal of 700 for year two. Parents of Stetser Elementary participants recently gathered for a program update and nutrition seminar featuring a healthy meal prepared by Widener’s ARAMARK staff. Read more in the Delco Times.
