Economic Development

Widener University is dedicated to the economic vitality of the communities it serves. An important economic engine for the City of Chester, Widener also creates significant economic contributions each year to the metropolitan regions of Philadelphia and Harrisburg and the states of Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Through economic development and projects that attract jobs, encourage the creation of small businesses, spur investment, and generate pride, Widener is driving community renewal and creating opportunities for jobs for residents in the surrounding community. 

Partners in Progress

The university is actively involved in partnerships with private developers, other local colleges and universities, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and area businesses and corporations to ensure the economic progress of the city.

University Crossings, a $50 million revitalization project along Providence Avenue in Chester has generated 32 new jobs thus far, 16 of which went to Chester residents with more jobs expected as more business tenants move into University Crossings. University Crossings is expected to produce an economic impact of $1 million dollars each year. 

University Technology Park, created by Widener University and Crozer Chester Medical Center, and the Keystone Innovation Zone aim to attract high-tech businesses to the city.
