Economic Development

Empowered by its civic engagement mission, Widener University is dedicated to the economic vitality of the City of Chester through projects and initiatives that will attract jobs, encourage the creation of small businesses, spur investment and generate pride in the commonwealth’s first city.

Partners in Progress

In addition to the economic impact of the university on the Chester community, the university is actively involved in partnerships with private developers, other local colleges and universities, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and area businesses and corporations to ensure the economic progress of the city.

These partnerships have resulted in the following initiatives:

• University Crossings, a $50 million revitalization project along Providence Avenue in Chester that will generate 60 new jobs and millions of dollars in additional tax revenue for the city and the school district.
• The Widener Small Business Development Center to help aspiring entrepreneurs launch new businesses in the city.
• The creation of University Technology Park and the Keystone Innovation Zone which is attracting high-tech businesses to the city.
