Small Business Development Center

The Widener University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) opened in January 2007 to serve small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

The center offers the following services:

• One-on-one management consulting with an emphasis on education and guidance in solving problems. Consulting is confidential and provided at no charge to entrepreneurs and small business owners.
• Educational programs that feature experts and business leaders who offer practical information on a wide range of topics. The First Step course provides prospective entrepreneurs with an overview of what is required to be a successful business owner.
• Information resources to help entrepreneurs obtain the timely, relevant, and detailed information they require to make sound business decisions.
• A Procurement Technical Assistance Center to provide in-depth help in pursuing government contract leads.
• Access to special programs to develop new technologies and products, understanding environmental and worker safety regulations, identifying energy savings opportunities, and engaging in international trade.

Vital Role in Pennsylvania's Economic Development Initiatives

The Widener SBDC, one of 18 small business development centers in Pennsylvania, is an accredited affiliate of the National Network of Small Business Development Centers. As the largest statewide provider of entrepreneurial services, the Pennsylvania SBDCs play a vital role in the Commonwealth's economic development initiatives.

By using the expertise and resources of 18 of the best colleges and universities in the state, the SBDCs are able to assist entrepreneurs in all stages of business across all industry sectors. Funding support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the SBDC host institutions enables consulting services to be provided at no charge to the client.
