Building a Foundation for the Future
Widener University has built a foundation for the future in both
leadership and experiential learning
with Founders Hall, a new academic building that is the home of the Oskin
Leadership Institute and the
School of Nursing.
Located on the former site of Victory and
Loveland Halls on the Main Campus in Chester, Pa., the
35,000-square-foot, three-story building complements the
architecture of Old Main while providing a modern facility for research
and scholarship in the field of leadership, and unparalleled
laboratories and classrooms for the teaching and learning of modern
nursing practices.
Founders Hall features a variety of
laboratories to simulate real-world nursing experiences including a
nurses’ station, a hospital simulation lab, an intensive care unit/trauma
lab, a pediatrics suite, an obstetrics suite, nurse practitioner exam
rooms, an assessment lab, and even an apartment lab to simulate a home
care situation. The facility offers nursing students one of the most
hands-on nursing education opportunities in the greater Philadelphia
region and exemplifies the university’s philosophy, “Don’t Just Study It.
Experience It.”
The new Oskin Leadership Institute, announced in
November 2008 with a $5 million gift from the family of David
W. (’64, '07H) and JoEllen Oskin, will provide a variety of
opportunities for Widener undergraduate and graduate students to
participate in leadership development activities, experiential learning,
and international opportunities focused on developing the character,
courage, and competencies to effect positive change throughout the world.
In addition, the institute will work with corporations and other
organizations to offer an executive leadership program, providing
opportunities for corporate and non-profit executives to enhance their
global leadership skills.
Numerous naming opportunities for classrooms, conference rooms and
laboratories are available. For more information on naming
opportunities, contact Linda Durant, senior vice president for university
advancement, at 610-499-4112.
