In an effort to support the overall health and wellbeing of the Widener community, the university's Wellness Advisory Committee began tackling heart health risks beginning in 2009 with its smoking cessation initiative. This made all Widener University campuses tobacco-free as of July 2010.
Last year, Fall 2010, the committee ran a campaign to promote healthy eating called “Eat Right, Feel Right.” This piggybacked on some of the initiatives already set in motion by ARAMARK’s own healthy eating program, “Just4U,” which includes healthy options at campus dining sites and educational material about making smart food choices. The committee also educated the campus community about "eating right" with tips in each edition of the What's Up @ Widener newsletter, which have been compiled here.
For the 2011-2012 academic year, the Wellness Advisory Committee continued its push for healthy eating by celebrating the first-ever Food Day on Oct. 24 and working to tackle the goals of Food Day throughout the year:
